Our five-year story started in the summer of 2023 exclusively on this Facebook page and concludes February 26, 2028—the opening ceremony centennial of the Moffat Tunnel. We’ll share never-before-seen imagery, video, and items—along with stories and perhaps some special guests along the way as well.

EAST PORTAL CAMP CABINS—COLORADO’S MOST ENDANGERED PLACES

Learn why Colorado Preservation, Inc. listed the five remaining cabins at the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel as one of Colorado’s Most Endangered Places in 2020 and view a CBS4 documentary covering the history and present-day challenges these cabins face.

EAST PORTAL CAMP CABINS—GILPIN COUNTY HISTORIC LANDMARK

As Vice Chair of the Gilpin County Historic Preservation Commission, B. Travis Wright nominated the five remaining cabins at the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel as a Gilpin County Historic Landmark. The Board of County Commissioners approved this Local Landmark Designation on June 13, 2023, by a vote of 3-0.
